# The Default Tenant

## What is the default tenant?

The **default tenant** is the administrative tenant used by *you*, the user.

Hotglue refers to the administrative tenant as **default** because:

* In a **Read Flow**, your tenants will default to using the **default tenant's** [linked target](/key-concepts/connectors/v1-targets/overview)
* In a **Write Flow**, your tenants will default to using the **default tenant's** [linked source](\(/key-concepts/connectors/v1-sources/overview\))
* In a **V2 Bidirectional Flow**, your tenants will default to using the **default tenant's** linked source and/or target.

## Support sources, targets and connectors

Before your tenants can link a connector with their own credentials, you must link that connector within that flow using the **default tenant**.

Linking with the **default tenant** creates a [supported source](/key-concepts/connectors/v1-sources/overview#what-is-a-supported-source) for that flow.
Similarly when you link V1 Targets and V2 Connectors with your **default tenant**, you create [supported targets](/key-concepts/connectors/v1-targets/overview#what-is-a-supported-target) and [supported connectors](/key-concepts/connectors/connectors#what-is-a-supported-connector) respectively.

## Billing

The **default tenant** is not counted in your billed active tenant count.
