# helperText

> Rich helper text beneath credential fields and on the Connect Params screen in Widget v3.

Widget v3 can render HTML beneath individual credential fields and in the Connect Params header. Use it for setup links, short lists, and emphasis without custom widget code.

## Credential fields (`connect_ui_params`)

Set helper text on each field in the connector settings JSON under `connect_ui_params`. The `helperText` property takes precedence over `description` when both are set; if `helperText` is omitted, Widget v3 uses `description` the same way.

Configure `connect_ui_params` on:

* [V2 connectors](/key-concepts/connectors/v2-connectors/settings#connect_ui_params)
* [V1 sources](/key-concepts/connectors/v1-sources/settings#connect_ui_params)
* [V1 targets](/key-concepts/connectors/v1-targets/settings#connect_ui_params)

Example for a single field:

```json theme={null}
"connect_ui_params": {
  "api_key": {
    "label": "API key",
    "helperText": "<a href=\"https://x.co\">Where to find your API key</a>",
    "type": "password"
  }
}
```

</Frame>

## Connect Params header (`ConnectParams.description`)

The screen title area above the credential form accepts the same safe HTML through [`setLocalization`](/widget-v3/reference/setLocalization#connect-params) → `ConnectParams.description`:

```tsx theme={null}
ConnectParams: {
  title: "Connect Your Account",
  description: "<a href=\"https://x.co\">Setup guide</a>",
  action: "Authorize"
}
```

## Allowed HTML

The widget renders these tags: `a`, `b`, `strong`, `i`, `em`, `code`, `br`, `p`, `ul`, `ol`, and `li`.

Links must use an absolute `https:`, `http:`, or `mailto:` URL. Unsafe or unsupported markup is stripped rather than rendered.
